So who am I and what am I all about??

Well, my ultimate goal is to help others experience a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life through achieving a greater state of wellness of both mind and body.   For me, the connection between mind and body is so strong that we simply do not function at our full capacity when one or the other is out of whack…

I believe that everyone deserves to feel a sense of “wellness” and I believe that even though it isn’t always easy, it IS within reach for every single one of us.  The hardest part is often simply allowing ourselves to be open to it!

I spent years working in the corporate world, chained to a desk doing work that held no significant meaning for me personally.  I saw my colleagues come into work with so much more enthusiasm and desire to improve and go for promotions that I had zero interest in.  I felt envious of their sense of purpose and their apparent satisfaction with their working life…  I felt like I was in the wrong place..like I didn’t quite fit.  I had an urge and desire to do something else with my life and find a different path, I just didn’t know exactly what or how!

It was while I was on maternity leave with my first child that it came to me….I wanted to retrain as a fitness instructor and work with women to help improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

And so I did just that!  Amazing right?

I struck lucky and had the opportunity to join a fabulous community of women and began to work with Tribal Fitness Bootcamps leading ladies only fitness sessions and postnatal sessions for mums with their babies (check out all the amazing services Tribal Fitness have to offer here).

I finally felt fulfilled. I was making a difference to people’s lives. This felt (and still does feel) WONDERFUL!

I don’t mean to be misleading…this wasn’t an overnight change and it wasn’t all easy and enjoyable!  Of course there was (and still is) a level of stress and anxiety involved in these changes to my life and my career.  But still, my overriding feeling was that I was finally on the right path.  I was finally taking steps in the right direction to achieve that feeling of purpose and “wellness”.

Fast forward a few years, add another child to the mix and my journey has progressed even more!!

Now I am finding myself working much more frequently on an individual basis with clients.  This give me (and them!) the ability to work around specific injuries or postnatal issues, or awkward work & family schedules/responsibilities.   I so enjoy these sessions and just love helping women find a way to fit fitness into their lives and regain their confidence when it comes to exercise.

Being a strong supporter of Pilates and Yoga, it seemed only natural that my professional fitness journey would eventually move towards this direction.  I found myself with a desire to deepen my knowledge in this area.  That is why I made the decision to gain a qualification in Mat-based Pilates sessions.  I just love the strength and control that comes with this type of movement and the connection of the body and mind by slowing things down and focussing on moving with the flow of the breath…. PERFECT!  This to me is bringing people closer to the mind and body wellness that I so strongly believe in. (Read more about my style of classes here)

My learning is far from over and there are so many more avenues I want to explore!  As my children grow older and I find myself with more free time, I know that I will have no issues filling my days – there is so much to learn and I am excited by all the possibilities ahead of me!

So there you have it.  A very brief introduction to me, Emily Clifford, and my continuing journey towards greater “mind and body wellness”.
